What is the Wim Hof Method?
The Wim Hof Method was designed by Wim Hof, also known as The Iceman, a Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete noted for his ability to withstand low temperatures. He previously held a Guinness World Record for swimming under ice and prolonged full-body contact with ice and holds a record for a barefoot half marathon on ice and snow.
There is a Guided Wim Hof breathing technique utilized prior to ice bathing or cold exposure. Using deep and rhythmic inhalations and exhalations to create a short stress response which will ultimately lead to more resilience towards everyday stress, mentally and physiologically, and feeling more in control.
What are the Benefits of Wim Hof?
The benefits of practicing the Wim Hof Method and cold exposure are many!
- Stress Reduction
- Faster recovery from physical exertion
- Better sleep
- Improved sports performance
- Enhanced creativity
- More focus and mental clarity
Ice showers, cold baths, and any exposure to cold will all render similar effects based on how long you choose to stay with the exposure.
“I personally have noticed heightened immune response, decreased depression, better lymphatic drainage, comfort with discomfort in life and difficult circumstances, decreased inflammation and pain, faster healing w sore muscles and just overall invigorating and great for mind, soul, and spirit.” – Melanie Wolf
