By May 1, 2023May 10th, 2023Blog, Deals

The month of May is full of celebrations. Mother’s Day on the 14th, graduation dates sprinkled throughout the month, and teachers appreciation week. The North Fork Valley has so many local businesses that provide unique experiences and gifts. Support your local economy and keep your money in your own community by trying out one of these ideas or shopping with another North Fork business.

Here are a few ideas for how to celebrate Mother’s Day, New Graduates, and Teachers for Teacher’s Appreciation Week.

Mountain Oven Cruffin Box

Local Pastry Box

Nothing hits the spot quite like a decadent pastry box and coffee. Whether you gift this as a gift card or select an assortment you can’t go wrong.

For the gluten-free recipient, try Simple Cafe. Keep in mind they are not open Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

For the locally grown enthusiast, try Mountain Oven. Their pop-up bakery offers pastries with locally grown grains.

Looking for decadent coffee to go with the pastries? Espresso Paeonia offers local and excellent lattes alongside a pastry case from Mountain Oven.

246 Coffee shop in Hotchkiss is a great place to enjoy a slow cup of coffee and peruse local art and home goods.

Zephyros Farm Plant SaleOld Fashioned Plant Therapy

Spring is here and many gardeners are gearing up to plant after the last frost date in Mid May. There is nothing quite as therapeutic as plant therapy.

Zephyros Farm and Garden offers organic seedlings at their farm Thursday-Sunday. While you are there, be sure to request more information about their flower CSA. A gift of an arrangement every week could be one way to make a statement of your affections well known! (It is a surefire way to become Mom’s favorite.)

Oasis Plant Nursery has all the perennial plants specifically acclimated to our arid climate. Find fruit trees, ornamentals, and medicinal plants at the nursery next door to Big B’s.

Local Wine Tasting & Purchase

While most wineries will not open until the end of May. There are a few in the North Fork Valley that are open for tastings.

Azura is known for it’s stunning setting and pond. If you can celebrate in person, consider the Azura Wine and Yachts on the Pond, where visitors bring RC boats to sail across the water. The first of the season will be on Mother’s Day and cannot be missed.

For delicious wine pairings, Root & Vine offers excellent brunch and lunch where they pair their wines with excellent local fare.

Mesa Winds is one of the only AVA’s in Colorado. Their excellent selection and small plates are sure to be an excellent choice for your celebration. Located in Hotchkiss, and not too far away from the wellness center!
